2010 Parsons’ graduate Marianna Barksdale’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection is based on Takashi Miike’s film “13 Assassins,” a story of 13 samurais in feudal Japan on a mission to annihilate an evil lord.
Marianna’s concept for Fall fashion was genius; exhibit the look of armor with a fluid-feel. Lisbeth Salander from the “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” was her fictional muse embodiment, a character that bares a hard exterior to protect her innermost vulnerabilities.
Each limited edition garment is made-to-order using materials in leather, vinyl and nylon, with elaborate detail and creative skill. All five pieces hold a special name: Engulf the Enemy, The Chaos and the Carnage, Samurai Lineage, Coup de Grâce and A Forest of Spears.
