The Real Girl Look Book

Normally I speak of designer labels and fashion icons, but in this edition I will focus on my good friend Rose. I have never had an opportunity to dress her, until now. On our trip to the Mall, we hit three stores: H&M, Forever 21 and Too Cute Boutique. Rose is a classical gal (not much for risk-taking in the name of fashion-glory), so each item is chosen under careful consideration. Too Cute Boutique seemed to be waiting for us, every pant lacking in her closet stood hanging from the wall racks. I grabbed as many as my arms could fit, while still managing to pull at least one top.

Taupe Tunic Blouse. Black Skinny Jeans (Too Cute Boutique)
Particuliere (CHANEL nail polish)

I went with a staple every woman needs: black skinny jeans. They are far more wearable outside of Casual Fridays, because they resemble fitted trousers. Taupe is lovely (a shade that compliments most women), which is why Chanel created “Particuliere” nail polish, so women could incorporate Taupe into their daily wear. I had Rose dress in a pair of her own black satin round-toe pumps, which she uses exclusively for cocktail parties and weddings. That day I showed her just how versatile those shoes can be, they work great with denim as easily as a-line, pleated, pencil or flowy skirt, with the ability to be worn repeatedly throughout the week.

Cobalt Blue Cardigan (Forever 21). Black Blouse (H&M). Grey Denim Pants (Too Cute Boutique)

Cardigans, cardigans, cardigans! The more colors you own the better, since they are a simpler alternative to blazers and jackets. I matched this cardigan with a universal black blouse. Grey skinny jeans can also replace grey fitted trousers when you want a break from corporate attire.

Animal Print Top. Black Skinny Jeans (Too Cute Boutique)
Wide Chain Bridle Belt (Alexander McQueen)

We’ve seen animal prints grace the runways of Roberto Cavalli and this cotton version is relaxed, but playful. Wide Belts should be worn with caution and choose one in real leather and metal to avoid looking like a cast member of MTV’s Jersey Shore. The Wide Chained Bridal Belt by Alexander McQueen is the best way to go.
