Date: April 21. Venue: Bloomingdale’s 59th Street
Bill Blass fashion house celebrates their Pop Up Shop launch with a fashion show presentation hosted by Bloomingale’s Brooke Jaffe. A wall collage stood in full view with iconic moments from Bill Blass. Bill Blass Creative Director Chris Benz (who has styled prominent figures from first lady Michelle Obama to singing sensation Rihanna), tells Jesenia’s Goodie Bag his Spring collection was inspired by timelines in the Bill Blass archives, spanning over some forty five years. A jeans and t-shirt kind of guy, Benz says he imagines his clients are the same, wanting comfortable fashion. “Life is fun, fashion is fun,” he says, “I’m inspired by a woman’s daily routine.”
The collection featured fanciful pieces, like the June Apron Top, a nylon and silk mesh top with nude pink embroidered floral clusters (also available in silver); the Betty Baseball Top, a two-toned silk beaded sequin tee in lemon and cherry tomato; and the Margo Tee, a cashmere crewneck paint splatter printed tee in shocking bubble gum pink.
Modernized blazers bore soft lilac pink and classic black colors, like the shrunken Billie Blazer. Two-toned ruffled skirts debuted in translucent lilac and ocean blue. Pants were relaxed in linen (Ethel Pants) and denim styles.
Classy and whimsical dresses included the Mary Shirt Dress, a 70’s styled silk charmeuse sandwashed floral tuxedo-ruffled shirtdress with 1920’s wall paper printing; the Priscilla dress, a ruffled-circle-skirt shift dress very reminiscent of a Swan Lake Prima ballerina; and the Hanna Ruffle Dress, a flapper girl inspired silk charmeuse powdered blue, ruffled, shift dress. Shoes were minimalist and retro in leather and suede, the Laverne loafers (in lemon and black) designed specifically with the signature Bill Blass angled toe.
Shining brightly and delicately the Oxford Sequin Scarf, resembling a jewelry piece as Chris Benz pointed out, hand-beaded over tulle fabric in chardonnay, shrimp, apricot ice, golden nugget and Inca gold colors. Plenty of functional bags to choose from the Buckley Shopper, an oversized leather tote (in nude and spearmint green); to the Lola Large Duffle in vibrant cobalt blue, and an orange, dainty, mini handbag.
