GQ Magazine Style Expert Peter St. John hosted this special event and opened up to Jesenia’s Goodie Bag in an exclusive interview about this summer’s essentials for men.
JGB: In your expertise, what are some summer styles for men you would recommend?
Peter St. John: Well, there are a few important ones to consider this summer. Dusty colors in light faded blue, like these (gesturing his pants) or green are very popular. Floral prints are also showing up a lot in fashion,–
JGB: –l’ve noticed, especially at Marc by Marc Jacobs MENS.
Peter St. John: Exactly. Even graphic prints, like that one for example (points over to a man wearing a graphic print backpack).
JGB: So the trend trickles down to accessories. Interesting!
Peter St. John: Oh, and Popover shirts (gestures his own shirt, trailing his finger over the buttons), they can be long or short, for a casual look without looking sloppy.
JGB: Now, on the topic of denim.
Peter St. John: We’re seeing a transition in denim. Before the look was very loose-fit and baggy,–
JGB: –like in the 90’s.
Peter St. John: Yeah, just like that, but now the look is slim-fit, comfortable. See these pants right here? (Approaches a small stack of dark denim jeans, trailing his finger over the seams of the top pant) Notice how there’s minimal stitching involved? The stitching is very subtle, clean. You want subtle dark denim with a clean wash, nothing flashy… and Chinos in dusty colors,–
JGB: –dusty like your pants.
Peter St. John: Yes, that kind of dusty.
