Venue – The Arc, Skylight at Moynihan Station
Event – Spring 2016 Ready-To-Wear
Designer, icon Betsey Johnson, presented her latest collection, The Curious Case of Betsey Button, which not only commemorates her 50 colorful and memorable years in fashion, it’s also dedicated to her childhood dance instructor Anne K. Pimm. Betsey narrated each era in sequential order as six of her defining moments showcased down the runway, starting with her signature prom princesses, followed by her flower power, punk, and trippy hippie styles, winding down to her mod mavens, and her finale of retro dance costumes.
Bejeweled, belted, and corseted models dressed in wild prints dominated the runway, with show-stopping pieces, like a houndstooth suit, poofy vinyl dress, and sheer rain jacket, with footwear equally impressive, patent heels in sweet pea, lipstick red and classic black, paired with fashionably loud socks.
The Betsey Johnson goody bag included Betsey exclusives, Sexy Hair Spray & Play volumizing hairspray, for shine, volume, lift, and hold, a 16 oz acrylic logo cup, perfect for my Smart water or Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, and three wristlet scrunchies in floral, leopard, and sugar skull print.
In addition to hitting her 50th mark of success, Betsey was awarded the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award… but don’t expect Betsey to slow down just yet, coming to stores during the holiday season, a limited edition collection of signature Betsey Johnson dresses, activewear, handbags, shoes, and jewelry.
