Anyone who follows designer Tashiann Yasmine on Instagram will enjoy a social media platform of female empowerment and unapologetic feminism. During New York fashion week, Yasmine explained her Spring collection was inspired by her travels, channeling her creativity through nature and landforms. Her goal is to reassure women to delight in their own skin and stand confidently in her designs.
As the collection unveiled, models’ hairstyles conjured seventies icons like Diana Ross, Angela Davis, Grace Jones, and Princess Leia. Natural styles featured, from the afro to voluminous coiled curls, center parts with textured waves, cornrow braids, double buns with pearl beading, and a bold bald. Makeup was also seventies reminiscent, with soft looks emerging, nude faces with peach, taupe-brown and terracotta lip color, followed by intensified bronzed cheek contour, mauve lips, gold shimmered tear ducts and face pearls.
Dresses showcased strapless with shredded hemlines in sorbet and vampy colors. Separates featured in a color range, from indigo blue to coral, caramel and emerald green, traced in zig-zag patterns and pleat, from satin and velvet fabric, paired with classic button-up shirts, 60’s mod mini-skirts, a bespoke pearl wrap skirt, wide-leg pants, and loose trousers. Showstopping multi-layered bikini body chains and harnesses draped over bare torsos, cascaded over tops and flashed under jackets in funky and metallic hues with pearl and teardrop accents.
Capelets, jackets, and blazers were cropped, short-sleeved and semi-pleat in velvet and satin with coiled pearl applique, fashioned in loose and oversize styles, and coated in functional gray, white and beige, and vintage-inspired toasted mustard, chestnut, and blue suede. Tashiann Yasmine completed her looks with fun and flirty shoes, white lace-up booties and strappy, pointed and nude ankle-strap heels.
