The internet is buzzing over fashion designer Malgorzata Dudek, dubbed “The Next Alexander McQueen.” This London gal has an impressive resume to her repertoire, from her nomination by Glamour Magazine (Poland) as Woman of the Year in Fashion (2012), to features in Harper’s Bazaar (Vietnam) and Elle Magazine (China). Her celebrity clientele include New York based actress Rachel Bilson and designer Nicola Formichetti. Whether it’s a red carpet event or music video, Malgorzata’s haute couture always garners attention. The excitement surrounding her Spring/Summer 2013 début entitled Arachne, during the height of New York Fashion Week, was evidently intoxicating. DJ Choimatic spun a series of vivaciously hot tracks for the show.
Arachne (meaning: spider) comes from Greco-Roman mythology, about an arrogant mortal woman with a flawless weaving talent, who challenged the goddess Athena. Athena’s envy was so immense that she turned the woman into a spider. Ironically enough, Athena’s presumed curse only solidified the weaver and her descendants to eternally hang from threads, thus biologically engineering her lineage as the greatest of weavers.
In keeping with the Arachne theme, Margolzata fascinated her audience with crochet tops and bottoms, elaborate arachnid inspired mask and dress, and an astonishing geometric dress. Her embellishments, towering royal corsets, awesome tailored embroidery, were fashioned with great precision.
