TLC (T-Boz, Left Eye, Chilli), the girl group that ruled the 90s with progressive tracks like Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg,Creep and Waterfalls released a biographical film that documents their journey to world fame. Destined for success, TLC’s first record sold 1 million, second album 14 million, yet sketchy former manager Perri ‘Pebbles’ Reid and former music producer Clive Davis both deprived the girls of ever seeing a dime of their hard earnings. Third time around, the trio entrusted manager Bill Diggins to restore their financial ordeal with a 50-million dollar world tour.
As a female, black, Hip Hop group, TLC broke many musical barriers. Their empowering, trend-setting image earned Waterfalls 7 weeks at #1, with their galactic hit No Scrubs topping the #1 chart in over 50 countries. From countless Grammies to certified diamond status, TLC superseded all expectations, but behind the music was a totally different scene. Personally the girls struggled. Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins suffered a long battle with sickle-cell, while Rozanda ‘Chlli’ Thomas and Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes both dealt with philandering boyfriends. In a soul-searching attempt, Left Eye packed her bags for Honduras. It was in the tropical jungles of Central America that Lisa finally found solace, but her life ended abruptly with an eerie lyrical premonition of chasing waterfalls. The loss of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes was both personal and professional, resulting in the band’s 10 year hiatus, but despite adversity, T-Boz and Chilli return to the studio to record an anniversary album with their newest song Meant To Be.
