Express moves to Times Square, opening their doors with a memorable Back2Business fashion event, hosted by GQ and Glamour magazine. Guests feasted their eyes on three levels of retail space. Glamour magazine Style Ambassador Erica Lavelanet (dressed in Express Women) lists for Jesenia’s Goodie Bag her Express apparel favorites, “motorcycle jackets, lace blouses and pleated skirts.” At the peak of the store lay an alluring display of menswear, curated by GQ Exec Stylist Brett Fahlgren. Patrons also enjoyed refreshing cocktails and Tintype Photography by Giles Clement. Perkla founders Marc Lombardo, Josh Kaplan and Justin Belmont were among the guests of honor, dressed in Express Men. Marc dishes his menswear guilty pleasures of straight-collared pinstripe button down shirts, plaid neckties, classic suits and leather Oxford shoes. The guys behind Perkla are no stranger to deals, digitally connecting college students with discounts to Express and other great vendors.
GQ host Brett Fahlgren gives Jesenia’s Goodie Bag a detailed account of the Back2Business theme and how to achieve the look. “For our Back to Business project we focused on ways to look sharp at the office while wearing color.” He explains, “Express does a fine job with their line-up of suits, sport jackets and trousers, with the modern fit as a big stand out.” Brett then breaks things down, offering not 1, not 2, but 5 office solutions to consider for Spring/Summer.
Rule #1: Don’t be afraid to switch up your dress shirt with a polo under your sport jacket.
Rule #2: Short sleeve button down shirts in solid white look sharp with flat front trousers and have a clean-cut 1950’s look.
Rules #3: Try a thinner width tie in cotton instead of traditional wider wool.
Rule #4: Upgrade your bag. Heavy leather messenger bags just leave sweat marks across your back, instead look for a lightweight canvas tote with leather handles.
