Date: October 18 Venue: Lord & Taylor – 5th Avenue, NYC
Renowned fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has trail blazed the fashion scene for decades. Designing for both the house of Chanel and Fendi, it’s incredible to know he can still find time to pursue his own fashion line. The Karl Lagerfeld Paris collection of Ready-To-Wear, Shoes & Handbags, have the brilliant aesthetic of Parisian chic with subtle influences from Chanel at a price that’s completely moderate.
Models Hailey Baldwin and Joan Smalls attended the Lord & Taylor x ELLE magazine launch of Karl Lagerfeld Paris, hosting an evening of fashion, wearing curated styles from the collection. Hailey looked stunning in double French braids, a KLP logo t-shirt, leather pants and two tiered diamond cross pendant necklace. Her makeup, smoldering taupe colored eyeshadow, bronzed cheekbones and 90’s inspired brownish lips. Joan Smalls was equally impressive, wearing half-up bantu knots, kohl lined eyes and a fresh face. Outfit was sleek and sophisticated in a semi-sheer snap closure blouse with leather lined fitted dress pants. Attendees made a bee line towards the models as they signed KLP logo t-shirts.
The Karl Lagerfeld Paris collection featured not only logo tees, but also portrait shirts. French girl separates included crisp white blouses and button downs, and monochrome tops, some with pearl necklines, bottoms from rockin’ roll cool motorcycle leather leggings to whimsical, graphic, full skirts, and dresses in silhouette-hugging shift styles with studded accents and abstract houndstooth printing. Four pocket haute couture inspired tweed jackets were fashioned with chain detail and metallic buttons, while sportier jackets trended in supple leather with snap closure necklines and zip up fronts. Fancier outerwear included a luxe tweed houndstooth print coat. The Chelsea boot gets a revamp with a stiletto heel and studded embellishment. Shoulder bags were iconic, quilted and chained in crimson-red with gold hardware detail.
Stacks of ELLE’s November issue graced table displays throughout. Inside the pages of ELLE, leather and lace combos, safari inspired daywear, washed denim styles, Joan Crawford officewear, colorblocking street style, silky pajama pants (think Rihanna). Accessories were playful, leather cuffs, charm necklaces, dangling earrings and knotted necklaces. Fashion mood boards jumped through iconic fashion periods, from the 50’s I Love Lucy button blouses, pleated skirts and vintage peep toe pumps, to 60s kitten heels, a 70s houndstooth print Chelsea boot by Kate Spade, 80s mesh tops, chain bracelets and studded leather jackets (very Madonna in the cult classic movie Desperately Seeking Susan), and Winona Ryder floral baby doll dresses from Anna Sui. Featured outerwear, shearling neckline denim jackets. Makeup trends from backstage beauty included airbrushed skin and jeweled colored smoky eyes.
