A bevy of celebrities, activists and leaders, joined Mayor Bill De Blasio and Film director Michael Moore, for the Pre-Inauguration Protest Rally of Donald Trump. Those attending included NAACP President Cornell William Brooks, Reverend Al Sharpton, actors Alec Baldwin, Robert De Niro, Mark Ruffalo, Julian Moore, Sally Field, Rosie Perez, Cynthia Nixon, Marisa Tomei, Shailene Woodley, and singers Cher and Linda Perry of 10,000 Manics.
Thousands of supporters stood in unison as key speakers took to stage to voice their concerns and affirm the crowd. Alec Baldwin led with a satirical styled spoof of Donald Trump, Robert De Niro condemned divisiveness, Al Sharpton reminded the audience that inalienable rights were fought for and won by civil rights leaders, Sally Field stressed the importance of the labor unions and women’s rights, RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum focused on progressive grassroots movements and livable wages, Mark Ruffalo called attendees “people protectors,” Cynthia Nixon spoke passionately about Stone Wall Inn and equal rights, Shailene Woodley praised the peaceful protesters at Standing Rock and encouraged others to follow their lead, and Cher brought perspective on living through twelve presidential administrations and how none of them had prepared her for the 45th presidency. Linda Perry then serenaded the audience with a series of songs before the protest proceeded at 1 Central Park West in front of Trump International Tower.
