Ashlyn So, the 12-year-old designer who stole the heart of fashion week goers is one talent to watch closely. When she’s not sketching and creating whimsical pieces, the young inventor enjoys episodes from Project Runway. She sites Alexander Wang as her fashion icon and in six years plans to attend Parsons School of Design. So believes love can be contagious and takes much pride in using her platform to raise money for charity.
For her Fall capsule collection, Ashlyn says she was inspired by Outerspace, constructing futuristic avant-garde kids and teens apparel in abstract shapes, like cubic crystals, moon-like cutouts, rocket launch motif, and Jupiter colors. Hair and makeup kept with the Sci-Fi theme, two-tone sumo style ponytails, large double buns, and tribal face paint. Galactic accessories included cyclops shield sunglasses and oversized shades. Elaborate tops displayed color-block styles with bold trimming and sizable decorations, paired with nylon leggings and juxtaposition pants designs. 50’s inspired poodle skirts made a feature. Unconventional separates included a colorful open back full-length gilet with enlarged pinning, and yellowjacket jumpsuit with exaggerated pockets, cutout, and zip detail. Wearable art dresses fashioned in one shoulder, delicate strap or cowl neck styles with sheer vinyl overlay, fringe and satin accents, textured brocade, multi-button adornment, and long trains, coupled with white canvas sneakers and strappy heels.
