One of the most anticipated movies to come is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Trish Summerville (Costume Designer for the movie adaptation) created an exclusive line through H&M and opened a 3-day Pop-Up Shop in New York City’s Meat Packing District on 72 Gansevoort Street.

The first window on display presented the cyber café, paying homage to the computer-hacker movie character Lisbeth Salander. The second window had an awesome motorcycle prop.

I loved that the Pop-Up Shop resembled a warehouse, thus creating a perfect atmosphere for the movie theme. The clothes were a modern take on 80‘s punk and 90’s grunge. Imagine a cocktail drink with one-part Balmain, one-part Helmut Lang and one-part Burberry, that’s the formula for Trish Summerville’s collection for H&M. Racks of shredded tees and tanks, leather motorcycle jackets, pants and jeggings, wooly hooded coats, cotton hoodies. Accessories included a hoodie hat, leather-strap bracelet and a pair of tribal earrings that sold quicker than an Apple iPhone.

As the clock ticked, merchandize literally flew off the shelves. I was lucky enough to nab these eight items.

A fun photo-booth stood on the selling floor, while a live DJ spun hot tracks from music artist Robyn. (Robyn Fan Page)

Anyone curious to preview The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie had a welcoming opportunity to do so right in the store!

Soon after shopping, I made my way into the cyber café, filled with real books and free internet access.

Of course my first stop was towards the café bar to order a cappuccino. My beverage was free, courtesy of the Pop-Up Shop experience. My barista was a great hostess, very helpful and super down-to-earth.

Out of three Pop-Up Shop days, I visited a total of two times. It was truly exciting rummaging through a wealth of originals. Eagerly I inquired within, hoping Trish Summerville would consider opening a permanent store to bring us Fashionistas a chance to shop year-round, but alas this was just a teaser, a one-time exclusive experience.

Best piece on Trish’s collection and loved your comments. I am especially attached because I’m her Mother. Thank you for such a wonderful piece. Lauren Summerville I’ve had my email address for many years, my grandmother’s name. Coincidence.
I agree with the above poster (and if that is really her mother, that’s super cool!), the post was really descriptive and I thoroughly enjoyed it..plus I didn’t even know that they had a pop-up shop in NY..so it definitely helped my withdrawal symptoms from the movie. You’re really lucky to have been able to get all those pieces in the price it was supposed to be sold at..I got most of mine off of ebay, so I had to pay extra :(..I just wanted to know, is the ‘hoodie hat,’ worth it? ‘Cz I’ve been debating whether to get it or not? Thanks..again great post :)!
Hey Fatima, thanks for the support! … The hoodie hat is so worth it, I wear it on the weekends and it really spruces up my look, it is so Grace Jones! I wish I had acted fast enough to get the earrings, the leather jacker and motorcycle pants, but the line really took off faster then I can say “Whoa.” But I was lucky enough to find some tribal earrings online that resemble Lisbeth Salander’s to the “T.” I want Tirsh Summerville to create a permenant store! I frequent H&M and troll motorcycle sites, looking for Lisbeth inspired looks, but the market is so limited right now. There’s Balmain, Burberry and Helmut Lang, but 1K-4K is not reasonable if you wanna buy in bulk, so my hunt is still on.
Thanks for the quick response 🙂
Sweet! I’ve been eyeing it for a while, so now that you’ve had me convinced, I’m probably going to bid on it last minute on ebay. I would love to know what site you got the earrings from was? If you don’t mind, do tell! :b…Yeah, that would be really awesome, if she did have a permanent store, though being a designer name, I can’t help but think that it’ll probably be expensive, though drool-worthy. I know how you feel..but I think the whole L. Salander style is really in right now (i.e http://www.refinery29.com/edgy-punk-clothing-for-everyone)..like I’ve been seeing the waxed cotton pants/jeans a lot recently and I’m sure it’s not too hard to distress some basics and get a small ‘grunge punk’ (for lack of a better description, unfortunately) wardrobe going. Leather jackets are also really in. If you can, there’s still some reasonably priced auctions still going on ebay, as I’m typing this. And I’m sure more items will show up later on. Patience is key 😉
Okay, so I emailed you the site to the Lisbeth-inspired earrings. Thanks for the refinery link, I was looking thru the slideshow and I already have a Bottega Veneta clutch, leather shorts, a few studded bracelet cuffs, biker vests– all I am missing is Lady Gaga’s leather studded bra, lol! Lately, I’ve been buying faux leather leggings and liquid leggings to fill the void of not having motorcycle pants… I took your advice and logged on eBay and I put the Biker Jacket by Trish Summverville on my “Watch List.” Wish me luck!
