Date: November 5. Location: Diesel SoHo Store
Newly crowned Diesel Artistic Director, Nicola Formichetti, returns to 135 Spring Street to his former pop-up shop, now flagship store to Diesel, for a Diesel Reboot celebration. Nicola Formichetti shares with Jesenia’s Goodie Bag the inspirational essence behind the limited edition tribute teaser, a handmade capsule of patchwork and studded denim to what he defines as a “Diesel love letter.” When asked to choose just one fundamental garment from his collection, Nicola immediately pointed to the sleeveless vest for its genderless and timeless properties, while declaring as a matter-of-factly, “An item like this will definitely sell out fast.” Regarding future projects, Nicola mentions a highly anticipated March fashion show.
Taking 35-years of Diesel genetic coding, Formichetti channels his fashion ingenuity and conceives a reinvention of Diesel classics using the revolutionary jogg jean fabric, for modernly durable denim with a jersey knit feel. Chambray shirts bore decorative rainbow buttons, vests were exuberantly embellished, denim jackets had a cool leather collared edge, cut-out shorts felt nostalgically vintage, graphic printed undergarments and shirts rocked images of travel stickers, metal bottle caps and comic book art, boyfriend jeans were neutrally stone-washed, and high-top canvas sneakers carried whimsically youthful shoe laces and patchwork. Popular motorcycle jackets also lay in display with matching biker boots.
A featured Phhhhoto Booth projected GIF images of Nicola Formichetti and his guests, models in Diesel Tribute apparel posed for photos, while music mixologist DJ Mess Kid turned tables. France’s Grey Goose vodka poured freely from two full bars, and making an impromptu appearance was menswear Street Style blogger Marcel Florub of One Dapper Street.
