The youthful essence of Calvin Luo emanated in a cool mix of bright, nude, powdered and neutral styles for his third season at New York Fashion Week. Using reversible material changing technology, clothing’s colors shift with the wearer’s own body temperature. Luo reveals the films for his collection inspiration; The Virgin Suicides (vintage vibe), Marie Antoinette (french opulence) and Requiem For A Dream (downtown chic). (Side Note Movie Trivia: two out of Calvin’s three movies choices also starred actress Kirsten Dunst.) His muse he says is edgy, whimsical and feminine. The show began with an introduction to sportswear, then quickly evolved to more dainty and goth pieces. Luo credits his collection’s soft and hard juxtaposition to his fascination with porcelain artist Xie Dong.
