Date: Saturday, September 8th. Venue: Angel Orensanz Foundation
The all-inclusive world of Topping Designs lays its foundation in feminism and acceptance. Designer Duane Topping defines beauty in individualism, encompassing all queer, intersect, transgender and those outside the bell curve. Topping Designs also pride itself in using deadstock fabric to create unique and socially responsible fashion. As a retired military man, Duane now finds peace in the liberating and creative process of fashion designing to cope with PSTD.
Like an Hermès scarf, Duane’s collection was soft, eye-catching and luxurious. Tops and blouses boasted gathered, cropped, v-neck, open sleeves/back with high-low and ruffle features in robin egg blue, lemon chiffon, lilac pink, espresso and paisley print. Circle skirts, cropped and palazzo pants made strides in matching fabrics. Playful rompers and jumpsuits were fashioned with choker necklines, plunging fronts/backs with ruffle accents and sunflower prints. Kimono, handkerchief and tube styled dresses were frayed, strappy, backless with cutouts, semi patching and godet in two tone, turquoise and earthy hues. Plus sizes peeked in nude pink, ombre and sunflower print camisoles and bell pants.
